Who do I call for towing in Cape Coral?

Call (786) 859-5468. It rings a local tow operator who works Cape Coral and the rest of Lee County, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No call center sits in between, so the person who answers can ask the right questions about your street.

Cape Coral has a lot of streets that look alike. The same street numbers repeat in each quadrant (NE, NW, SE, SW), and a wrong turn can put a driver on the wrong side of a canal with no bridge nearby. A tow company in Cape Coral that knows the layout asks for more than a street name.

When you call, give:

  • The full street name with its quadrant and suffix, like SW 12th Terrace.
  • Which main road you came from, such as Del Prado Blvd, Santa Barbara Blvd or Veterans Memorial Pkwy.
  • What you drive, and whether it is all-wheel drive.
  • Whether the car is on pavement, on the grass or down in the swale.

That last answer matters more in the Cape than almost anywhere else in Lee County.

02

Can a tow truck reach a car on a canal street in Cape Coral?

Yes. Most canal-side streets are narrow and many dead-end at the water. A wheel-lift needs less room to hook up, which is why it suits these streets. Tell the operator if the road dead-ends or if the car sits near a seawall.

Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of canals, and a large share of homes back onto one. That means a lot of short streets that end at the water, tight turnarounds, and cars parked close to seawalls and boat lifts.

Driveways and cul-de-sacs

The truck backs in, lifts one end of the car and pulls it straight out. If the car is nosed in against a garage door, say so. It changes which end gets lifted.

Near the water

If a car has rolled toward a seawall or gone onto soft ground next to a canal, do not try to drive it out. Spinning tires dig in fast on that ground. Call it in as a winch-out so the operator brings the right gear and pulls it back onto solid ground first.

What happens if I break down on the Midpoint Bridge or Cape Coral Bridge?

Keep your hazards on, stay inside with your seatbelt on, and call 911 if you are blocking a lane. Then call (786) 859-5468 and say which bridge, which direction and how far across you are. Both bridges have little room to stand outside the car.

Cape Coral has two direct bridges to Fort Myers across the Caloosahatchee River: the Midpoint Bridge, which lands at Colonial Blvd on the Fort Myers side, and the older Cape Coral Bridge to the south. Breakdowns on either back up traffic quickly at rush hour.

If the car will still roll, coast it off the far end of the bridge into the first lot or side street. A hookup in a parking lot near either approach is safer and simpler than one on the span.

Many Cape drivers work in Fort Myers, so a lot of these tows end at a shop across the river. That is a normal local tow. Tell the operator the drop-off address when you call. For calls that start on the Fort Myers side, see towing in Fort Myers.

04

What are the busiest roads for towing in Cape Coral?

Most Cape Coral calls come from Del Prado Blvd, Pine Island Rd, Veterans Memorial Pkwy and Santa Barbara Blvd. These are the main roads where traffic, shopping centers and commutes concentrate, so that is where cars break down, batteries die and keys get locked inside.

  • Del Prado Blvd runs north-south through the city and is lined with stores and lots, which makes it the easiest place to pull off safely.
  • Pine Island Rd crosses the north end of the Cape and carries traffic toward North Fort Myers and US-41.
  • Veterans Memorial Pkwy is the fast east-west route toward the Midpoint Bridge.
  • Santa Barbara Blvd runs north-south on the west side of Del Prado.

If you stall on one of these, coast into the nearest parking lot if the car moves at all. If it will not move, stay inside with your hazards on.

A dead battery in a grocery store lot does not always need a tow. Ask about a jump start or lockout service first.

05

Can you pull a car out of a sandy lot or swale in Cape Coral?

Yes. Cars stuck in empty sandy lots, front-yard swales and soft shoulders get winched back onto solid ground before anything else happens. If the car still runs after that, you may drive away without a tow at all.

Cape Coral still has plenty of empty lots, and most streets drain into grass swales along the edge of the road. Both look solid until a tire drops in. After a summer storm, a swale can hold water for hours and the sand under it goes soft.

What to do:

  • Stop spinning the tires. Every second of spinning digs the car deeper.
  • Do not put boards or floor mats under the tires and floor it. That often throws them into the car behind.
  • Take a look at how far the car is off the pavement and whether it is tilted.

Pass that to the operator. Full details are on the winch-out service page. If you manage a property in the Cape and the problem is cars parked on your lots, that falls under private property towing.

06

Can I get a tow in Cape Coral during a storm or hurricane season?

Calls are answered 24 hours a day, including during summer storms and hurricane season. Do not drive through flooded streets to reach help. Get to dry ground if you can, keep your hazards on, and call with your exact location.

Afternoon storms roll across the Cape almost daily in the rainy season. Low streets near canals and the swales along them fill quickly, and water that looks shallow can stall an engine or float a small car toward the edge.

If your car stalled in water, do not restart it. Tell the operator it went through water. Your shop will want to know too.

During hurricane season, follow Lee County instructions and stay off the roads when you are told to. After a storm passes, the common calls are cars pushed into swales, cars sitting in standing water in driveways, and cars that will not start after being parked through the storm. Many of those need a winch-out before they can be towed.

The same number covers towing in Lehigh Acres, where sandy roads cause the same trouble after heavy rain.

FAQ

What do drivers ask before calling a tow truck in Cape Coral?

Is there a tow truck near me in Cape Coral right now?

Call (786) 859-5468. A local operator answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and works Cape Coral along with the rest of Lee County. Give your full street name with its suffix, the nearest main road, your vehicle and where it needs to go.

Can you tow my car from Cape Coral to a shop in Fort Myers?

Yes. Tows from the Cape across the Midpoint Bridge or Cape Coral Bridge to a Fort Myers shop are routine local tows. Have the shop's name and address ready when you call. If the tow is headed outside Lee County, it is quoted by phone before the truck rolls.

My car slid into the swale in front of a house. Do I need a tow?

Not always. The car gets winched back onto the pavement first. If it drives normally after that, you can go on your way. If something got damaged, or it will not start, it can be towed to a shop on the same call. Stop spinning the tires while you wait.

Do you tow all-wheel-drive SUVs in Cape Coral?

Yes. All-wheel-drive vehicles are towed with wheel dollies under the wheels left on the ground, so no wheel turns during the trip. Say the car is all-wheel drive when you call. The same setup is used for a car with a locked brake or a wheel that will not turn.

Can a Cape Coral HOA or apartment complex set up private property towing?

Yes. Property managers, HOAs, apartment complexes and businesses in the Cape can set up private property towing. Florida Statute 715.07 requires proper posted signage and a tow agreement with the property owner. Confirm local rules with Lee County, then see the private property towing page for how it works.
